Scientific Notation
2.99792458 × 10⁸
Standard Form
299,792,458
Step 1: 299,792,458 — count decimal places from the first significant digit → 8 places left
Step 2: Coefficient = 2.99792458 (first digit, then decimal point after)
Step 3: Exponent = 8 (number of places moved)
Result: 2.99792458 × 10⁸

Scientific Calculator Guide — Trig, Logarithms, DEG vs RAD & Keyboard Shortcuts

A scientific calculator extends basic arithmetic with functions essential for mathematics, physics, engineering, and science. Here's everything you need to know to use it effectively.

Trigonometric Functions

Always set DEG or RAD mode before calculating. The most common error: calculating sin(30) in RAD mode gives −0.988, not 0.5.

Angle Mode Conversion
Radians = Degrees × π ÷ 180
30° = π/6 ≈ 0.5236 rad
45° = π/4 ≈ 0.7854 rad
60° = π/3 ≈ 1.0472 rad
90° = π/2 ≈ 1.5708 rad
180° = π ≈ 3.14159 rad
360° = 2π ≈ 6.28318 rad

Logarithm Rules

Key Log/Ln Rules
log(a × b) = log(a) + log(b)
log(a ÷ b) = log(a) − log(b)
log(aⁿ) = n × log(a)
ln(eˣ) = x | log(10ˣ) = x
log₂(2ⁿ) = n
